About: The image of our earliest ancestors making paintings on cave walls, prompts thoughts of what motivates us to create. Any one of us who has observed an infant making her first marks, recognizes this creative impulse. First Artist is both an amusing (modern) portrayal of the earliest artist, and a serious consideration of that deep rooted impulse in all of us.
About: Guernica is a controversial painting challenging our views on war and violence. We do not condone war, yet it is often waged in our name. Many protest, yet their voices are ignored. We prefer to see ourselves as civilized, yet barbaric acts can easily be excused as just human nature. Are we all prone to a dark side? Surely we can rise to our higher selves. Most of us live in peace and want the same of others. We can acknowledge these dark forces in us, yet also mature to a better self.
