DESCRIPTION: There’s a famous Whistler painting called Arrangement in Grey and Black, also known as Whistler’s Mother. In some ways, this is also an arrangement in white, black, and grey. Beyond the formal considerations, the subject is of interest to the viewer. Here, it is a woman tying a shoelace. For me, it is the challenge to draw the intricacies of that seemingly simple action.
MEDIUM: Lumograph pencil and pastel on toned paper
DESCRIPTION: As simple as it is, the tying of shoe places was the motivation for the pose. I wanted to challenge myself with the complexity of the form. This is the result.
DESCRIPTION: The title refers to the forward bend pose, the folds in the fabric, and the folds of flesh. Very pinup-like, yet still a sexy pose. The drawing turned out well, I think.
DESCRIPTION: She was very proud of her designer shoes, but also wanted to do poses with the boxing gloves. The colors fit, so we combined both. It’s in interesting, even incongruous, combination.
