ABOUT: When suggesting my model do poses that most expressed their identity, they chose to put on makeup. The 2 paintings i did are intimate and touching.

ABOUT: The couple arrived for our session with their own ideas of how to pose, what props to use, and what they wanted to express about their relationship. The session felt very real, genuine, and intimate, a view into the inner recesses of a relationship. It was one of the most rewarding 2-model sessions I’ve had.

The Hat from Vietnam
ABOUT: My model, K speaks animatedly about travel and faraway exotic places. She is a travel agent, organizing trips to those places she is enthusiastic about. K has been to Africa, and has seen much there. She brought the Vietnamese hat as a prop, and it seems most appropriate that she pose with it. She’s very responsive to the use of props and likes to assume the character of the hat or costume she is wearing.

ABOUT: The title and pose communicates the directness of its meaning. My model has a forwardness and boldness that appeals, and this is easily expressed in her position and props. She is frank, open, and honest, and these are qualities I wanted to find in the painting.

ABOUT: The pose and props are so her. In any studio session, I attempt to match the model with poses and props that closely reflect him/her.
