About: The image of our earliest ancestors making paintings on cave walls, prompts thoughts of what motivates us to create. Any one of us who has observed an infant making her first marks, recognizes this creative impulse. First Artist is both an amusing (modern) portrayal of the earliest artist, and a serious consideration of that deep rooted impulse in all of us.
ABOUT: This is a page from a book by Virgil, the Roman poet and writer. Eclogue is a love story, and the two transgender models, were very much in love. The leisurely pose with musical instruments evokes an imagined mythological past.
About: This is one of my ongoing themes on environmental awareness. Our future generations’ existence is dependent upon our contemplation of how we live in the world now; how our choices now impact the future of our world. This is an explicit engagement with this topic. It is a daily reminder.
About: A tribute to Matisse, where the title refers to the original Matisse painting, and to the model. She has seemingly just completed the masterpiece with a house-brush. It is both tongue-in-cheek and an affirmation of the strength of a bold young woman. Reworking a great painting is always a revelation of the genius of those past masters.
About: Scaramouche, from Italian scaramuccia (literally “little skirmisher”), is a clown character from 16th-century Italian comic theater. Scaramouche is sly, adroit, supple, conceited, and known for boasting and cowardice. We recognize this person. The wonderful nose is a traditional Venetian mask and perfectly complements Julia’s slender body.
