ABOUT: The Toureg scarf comes from Morocco where I lived and worked many years ago. The Toureg tribes live in the Sahara and use the scarves to protect themselves from the sun. The blue dye in the fabric turn their skin blue in color. I’ve used that blue color here.
ABOUT: The Chinese chair has a broad seat which allows a model more space the position herself. Sarah has used this to create a beautiful languid form that is supported by the formality of the chair’s shape. The Tuareg scarf deepens the mystery.
ABOUT: Ultramarine blue is such as exotic color. I bespeaks of far-away places, and the Tuareg scarf and Chinese chair take us there. Although the props were my first interest, it is the energy of the pose that grabs our attention.
ABOUT: America asserts herself upon the world, in politics, culture, economically, and militarily. She is revered, envied, emulated, respected, and despised. Here I present America as the dominatrix of the world. We are titillated, entertained, enthralled, and a bit intimidated.
ABOUT: Each chair tells you how to sit in it. The Chinese chair has an elegance and refinement. It compliments the body and encourages us to find dignity in it. I like how the fine lines of the chair ‘appreciate’ the full figure of Gabrielle. It was an enjoyable session with her.
