ABOUT: Themes of an Arcadia, a Golden Age, a garden of Eden, take us to an ideal place, a place that represents freedom and innocence. Cynics will argue that such places do not exist, and never did. For me, Arcadia is a state of mind, and we can live here all the time.

ABOUT: The mirror is such a wonderful device much used by artists through history. It allows to us to consider ideas such as the other self, what is real and unreal, contemplation of the self, and so on. The title, Reflect Back, suggests both a literal interpretation – a mirror reflection of the back body, as well as a reflective look into the past. As always, the viewer is allowed his or her personal interpretation. Personally, I really enjoy the opportunity of looking at the figure from two views, simultaneously. The mirror provides another depth of view. We look into the room that we’re standing in. It demands more technical skill for the artist, too.

ABOUT: A is a strong advocate for LGBTQ rights, and describes herself as pansexual – attraction to others irrespective of gender. She also presents herself as ‘boyish’ and even her hairstyle – short cut on one side and long on the other – bespeaks of her nonbinary self. A’s top is both humorous and provocative. It challenges us to question gender identity, and assumptions of sex. Her pose is strong and defiant.

ABOUT: My personal life is one of almost continuous journeying, and this informs my view of life. We are here briefly, enjoying the adventure and challenges we experience when traveling to a new place. How to keep that spark of enthusiasm we have when we go somewhere different is the key to living that way in our day to day life. The best way to live a life without regrets is to live our best life here and now. So when it is time for our ‘departure’ we know we’ve lived our life fully.

ABOUT: In the past year, we were reminded often of the ephemeral quality of life. Both my mother-in-law and a close elder friend passed away. I use my art to process my feelings, and work through these experiences. The passing of life is not of deep grief, especially when it is the natural course of aging. Rather, it is the transitory quality of a journey. We’re all travelers, passing through.
