ABOUT: Here I was working with a new model, her first time posing. She has great body awareness. She was also going through some big changes in her life and the butterfly wings and skull seemed appropriate to express this ‘metamorphosis.’ As Buddhist tell us, life is in continual flux. Yet, we seem to experience periods of more turbulence than others. I think this was a satisfying session for both of us. It’s so nice to work with a more mature model
ABOUT: The kiss as a subject has long inspired artists, often with references to intimacy, passion, first love, long-lasting love, and so on and on. Here is the kiss of death. Is it an embrace of death, or rather an acceptance of all the stages and phases of our life, and what comes next? For me, the painting is a celebration.
ABOUT: Ellee is very active. She runs and rock climbs. It is evident in the strength of her body, and in the confident stride. The pose is about movement, transition, and passing through. The angel image with the mirror speaks to us about the ephemeral nature of life. The image is intended to bring us to contemplate this all too quickly passing life.
