Faith (Sara)

Faith (Sara)

ABOUT: Sara is a professional ballet dancer, which is apparent from the quality of her pose. We did a session where she wore her slippers and worked on classic poses. For some of the images we created, I wanted the feeling of vulnerability, which is conveyed through the blindfold and her being naked. When one is truly ‘exposed’ (naked and blind) then we must rely upon faith to guide us. I chose the pink to enhance the feeling of vitality, energy, and the commanding attention that a dance performance commands.

Balance

Balance

ABOUT: Balance is one of The Heavenly Seven Virtues, which was a theme-based series I did after completing The Seven Deadly Sins. This is a whimsical take on the subject, here proposing a life of creativity balanced with hedonistic enjoyment. My model is perfect for expressing this. Of course, for some, there is already no separation between the creative and party self.

Before You Leap

Before You Leap

ABOUT: The precariousness of our choices. Every decision has consequences. It can freeze us, yet we must act. We cannot but act, even when the consequences are unknown. Before You Leap presents the vulnerability and thrill of that moment before we jump into the unknown.

ABOUT: The joke goes, What do you do when you feel sad? Answer: I press ADD TO CART! Easy access material goods is exceedingly convenient and contributes to an efficient, and possibly a fulfilled life. As we all know, there is a darker side: the impact on the environment; the ongoing need for instant gratification, and a diminished ability to delay gratification. There is a dark underbelly. Easy access to material goods is a double sided sword – we are both liberated and encumbered. Here is the load, the weight of our Amazonian world.

About: An actor holding and speaking to a skull is our archetypal image of the performer. A naked performer represents our most vulnerable self, and looking into the face of a skull takes us to our most vulnerable place, our own end. Some of the edges of the figure’s form dissolve, as if exposed to bright stage lights, as if she herself is dissolving.
